Dear Grade 6 & 7 Parents,

As many of you know, there was a Human Growth and Development Parent Support meeting for all Grade 4, 6, and 7 parents a couple of weeks ago, and we know that some of you were able to attend, which is great!

It is our belief as Catholics that parents are the first educators of their children, and this is especially true when it comes to matters of faith and sexuality.  The ministry of education recognizes our right to deliver the curriculum in a manner that is sensitive to our faith beliefs while still being accurate, scientific, and informative.

In addition to the parent support meeting, there will also be some in-class lessons and activities on this topic in the coming weeks and months in Grades 6 and 7.

  • On Wednesday January 27 and Thursday Jan 28, Miss Winning and Mr. McNicol will facilitate two lessons (on growth, changes, and emotional and physical health during puberty and adolescence for both boys and girls).
  •  On February 2 and 16th, Guest Speaker Tia MacDougall from "The Empowering Life Series" will be leading the two more lessons/talks (on how babies are conceived and develop in the womb, and on healthy relationships, boundaries, respect, and safety). We feel that the students will benefit from a discussion with someone who has training and experience in reproductive health and youth education and is able to provide them with accurate information.  We are confident that by working with Ms. MacDougall, we can ensure the lessons are relevant to the curriculum for each Grade level and are also in line with the Catholic values we are teaching in Religion.
·         The Grade 6 & 7 classes will also be using the CISVA approved resource: Theology of the Body for Teens: Middle School Edition to study about matters of faith, morality, and sexuality.  More information about the Theology of the Body Program can be obtained by talking with Mr. McNicol or Miss Winning, or by visiting http://thetheologyofthebody.com/book-resources/study-information/1851/tob-teens-middle-school-edition-jason
·         If you have any questions at all about these programs or the information being presented, please do not hesitate to contact us at the school.
Blessings,

Miss Winning and Mr. McNicol

Dear Parents,
The Grandparents’ Tea is this Monday, January 25th. We are asking that anyone who expressed an interest in helping, to please join us in the basement of the church for set up and food preparation at 8:15 am or after. All food donations can be delivered to the church basement after 8:15 am or with your child when they arrive at school. Please ensure all food is made with allergy free products.
We will start at 9:30 am with food service. The Grade 6 and 3 classes will perform shortly after 10 am and we will be finished at 10:30 am. We will then begin clean up and be done by 11 am.
If anyone could be available to take leftover food (if there is any) to the Door is Open at 255 Dunlevy Avenue, Vancouver, that would of great help.
Please remember, your help counts as Parent Volunteer hours. We thank you in advance for your help and support with this event.

Yours truly,
Ms. Purgatorio

Mr. McNicol
